“Welcome to the home of Hannah's Yard!”
At the heart of the musical collective known as Hannah’s Yard lies the voice of 22 year old singer Hannah Layton Turner.
Supported by BBC Introducing and played on BBC Radio Two alongside numerous regional/independent radio stations, Hannah and her musicians have been making music since 2013.
For more of the story, please see the ABOUT section.
With our Reflections EP now exceeding 100k streams on Spotify, remaining true to our word, we announce the release of a brand new radio single, dropping on Friday 2 November!
Co-written by Hannah, along with musical partners Barnaby and James, ‘With You All The Way’ sees all in the Yard reach for our electric instruments for the first time.
This up-tempo, feel-good song sees us having some musical fun together. Supporting Hannah’s lush upfront vocals are notably Guitarist Tim Cansfield’s [Bee Gees] pocketed electric and the bass line of Michael Curtis Ruiz [Kylie] - one of the funkiest musical journeys in itself.
With recent news of social media’s indirect promotion of ‘self-consciousness’ rather than ‘self-confidence’, the song’s lyrical message shouts that we need to be there for each other. Be it family, friends, teachers, carers, work colleagues…we need to gather around those that need support…nobody should feel alone.
Hannah says: We’ve had so much fun writing & recording ‘With You All The Way’. It’s a little different to what we’ve released in the past but I absolutely love how it’s turned out. It has such a lovely relatable message of ‘togetherness' behind it - a little bit of fun & positivity for you to enjoy...I’m so excited for everyone to hear it!
...and there’s even more new music from Hannah’s Yard on its way towards the end of the year!
We promised 'lots of new music’ throughout 2018...and here's news of the next delivery!
Officially released on Friday 17th August, 'Reflections' is our aptly-named, brand-new EP collection of four understated covers.
You’ll hear an eclectic mix of songs written and associated with the likes of Lennon/McCartney, Jack Johnson and Randy Newman with the inclusion of an acoustic cover of our original song ‘Never Gonna Say I’m Sorry’, from our debut album 'Beginnings'.
With June 2018 marking the 50th anniversary of the recording of ‘Blackbird’ by Paul McCartney, at London’s famous Abbey Road Studios, we’ve given the song our own unique spin and stamp it as the ‘lead single’ from this new collection of songs.
“As we received such lovely feedback from both public and broadcasting supporters, we felt that our own stripped-back interpretation of ‘something familiar’ was the right thing to try and record. We really hope everyone enjoys what we’ve managed to capture! xxx”
New music is on its way...LOTS!!!
As our social media has teased, this month we're releasing a brand-new radio version of our song 'Dream With Me' - official release date is 18 May.
Featuring 21 year old Hannah's understated vocals, beautifully supported by country-tinged accompaniment from musicians in the 'Yard', the recording retains the 'acoustic pop' trademark that we seem to be increasingly associated with.
Hannah's Yard enjoyed a great end to the Summer, with an extended interview + live studio session with Dan Chisholm at BBC Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Bristol...followed by two live appearances at BBC Countryfile Live at Oxfordshire's historic Blenheim Palace, performing to the thousands of daily visitors on the BBC Introducing stage.
We've hit the ground running after the Summer break. We really enjoyed our recent understated 'duo' performances, captured on video at BBC Coventry & Warwickshire (recorded at 7.30am one Sunday morning and now on the BBC website). There is a growing interest in this voice/piano style of performance, marking a change from our usual 'full band' delivery...and we're very happy to explore it further, perhaps recording some voice/piano performances for future release.
Let's see what the period up to Christmas has to offer. Oh, we've a new radio single in production too...standby!
Hannah's Yard have decided to release a Radio Edit of our song DOIN' IT FOR MYSELF to accompany our debut album release. It's a song about empowerment with a healthy portion of Spring/Summer feel-good-factor thrown in. The first up-tempo release from us, production here is still typical of our ‘acoustic pop’ approach; Hannah’s voice shines out-front, whilst our musicians are clearly having fun playing alongside her! Check-out the animated video for the song below!
Our debut album has finally arrived!
BBC Introducing-spotted musical collective Hannah’s Yard write/perform across a mix of styles – always on the ‘acoustic pop’ side of pop/jazz/folk/country. Lead singer Hannah Layton Turner (now only 20 years of age) has already been compared to a young Katie Melua. BEGINNINGS - the Yard’s aptly-named debut album - features 14 songs recorded in Hannah’s home town of Olney…the small English town where ‘Amazing Grace’ was written in the 1770s. This collection of meaningful songs about life and love is presented with Hannah’s beautifully understated voice shining out-front with able-support given from her team of musicians. Fondly described as ‘Norah Jones meets Fairground Attraction’, the album will happily sit alongside the music of Katie Melua, Norah Jones, Eva Cassidy, Melody Gardot, James Taylor, Michael Bublé and friends on playlists and was released via digital stores worldwide on Friday 12 May 2017.
Whilst many of you will head for iTunes, Amazon and similar online stores for digital downloads, physical CD copies will ONLY be available direct from Hannah's Yard HQ, via our STORE page.
2017 is already looking like a busy and exciting year for all in Hannah's Yard! Along with the official 'Beginnings' album launch set for 12 May, a growing number of UK theatre dates with acclaimed singer-songwriter Gordon Haskell are now on sale to the public (see below). Gordon is in fine-form in his 70th year; his intimate warm-up gigs at Pizza Express Jazz Club (Maidstone) and 606 Club (Chelsea) have met with rave reviews from audiences. Gordon's become a bit of a national treasure in his 70th year...exactly 50 years Hannah's senior! All in 'the Yard' are very excited to perform alongside him throughout our 'Timeless Tour' together.
